From April to June this year, our partner, the Building Research Institute – ITB situated at Warsaw, Poland led and successfully completed already the second replicative study on the cross-sectoral use of our new CEPLAFIB materials for the needs of other industrial sectors. This replicative demonstration was based on validating the concept of the plastic cube moulds production for testing the concrete compressive strength specimens in compliance with specifications laid out in EN 12390-1:2012 (Testing hardened concrete – Part 1: Shape, dimensions and other requirements for specimens and moulds).

Testing the mechanical properties of the concrete is one of the most crucial stages of construction works. To control the quality of concrete, there are various moulds that are used for casting concrete samples during concreting works according to different standards at different countries. The polish company Alkaz Plastics is specialised in the injection moulding of polymeric components and is providing a complex tool making services based on both top-down and bottom-up approaches. The company’s portfolio of products among other includes also the production of plastic cube moulds for concrete compressive and tensile strength testing, which are traditionally made of virgin plastic materials in accordance with dimensions and tolerances stated in the relevant standard EN 12390-1:2012.

After learning about our project results, the attention of this company was drawn by the outstanding characteristics of our new CEPLAFIB composite material, which was developed for injection moulding applications. At the initiative of the Building Research Institute – ITB and at the request of the newly associated stakeholder – Alkaz Plastics, the consortium partner AITIIP, the technology centre from Spain, prepared a special series of CEPLAFIB granulate based on the recycled polypropylene reinforced with 30% of newsprint fibres.

Today, we can proudly present the new valuable products that are made from recycled CEPLAFIB composite and are used in the testing laboratories of the ITB. These green testing cube moulds, made of recycled materials, are available also to all other interested clients from the construction sector.
